Founders Prize
Winner 2021

Founders Prize 2021

The winner of this year’s Founders Prize is Rebecca Redfern from Worcester Swimming Club.

It’s been the most challenging of years for Rebecca, the pandemic and its impact to training was partially mitigated by the use of a swim spa in the back garden in which she trained outdoor in all weather, including snow, for the three months of the 2021 lockdown.

To even make it to Paralympic Trials in April was a huge achievement based on her restricted training, and only 8 months after giving birth to baby Patrick. To qualify for Tokyo was an amazing achievement.  To then represent her club, county and country in the way she did was just phenomenal, with her second fastest time of her career and fastest since 2016.

As a County we could not be prouder of her swimming achievements, together with what she has given back to the local community, including the swimming club. She was a guest at the Worcester Open in September and spent more than 3 hours signing autographs and having photos taken with the younger swimmers.  Since Tokyo, she has visited many schools to participate in assemblies under the mantra of ‘inspiring the next generation’. She is also seeking to be a champion for mums in sport.  Lastly, she has also agreed to be the patron for the Worcester based charity, Sight Concern.

The Management Board feel she is a very worthy winner.
